■概要
The Matrix converter is an alternative power converter topology to the industry standard voltage source inverter utilising a matrix of bi-directional switches to directly connect the supply to a load. Many advantages exist for the matrix converter such as, high power density, no DC link capacitors or inductors, controllable power factor and a typical use for this type of converter would be in an industrial motor drive.
This lecture will introduce the Matrix converter circuit and outline in detail its characteristics and advantages when compared to more traditional industrial drive topologies. The lecture will then go into detail regarding several different control methods for the modulation of the converter including, both carrier based and space vector based PWM techniques which allow the matrix converter to directly utilise an AC supply in order to create the desired output frequency and magnitude. Since no free-wheeling paths exist within this topology, the commutation of load current between devices has to be actively managed and this lecture will explain in detail several methods which can achieve this together with the important issues regarding these techniques.
